Get out of the pit--Psalms 40:1-8
We need to know that no matter the mess we are in, no matter
the stated we are in, no matter wether we are fragile or not, we need to bring
ourselves to God, before him no matter what.
Do we ever feel like we are in a pit that we cant get put? I
have before. And as I listened to Beth Moore speaking I couldn’t help but jot
my notes because we have all been there!
Anatomy of a pit! What is a pit? And how do we get out of
that pit!!
1.
What is a pit? Any place that we get, and then
can’t get ourselves out of. A place we do NOT want or need to be in nor stay
in/ Slimy, muddy, and mire. STUCK. There are 3 different kind of pits and we
are going to break down the anatomy of a pit.
A.
We can be thrown in a pit, a pit that is not sin
and that we did not willingly put our-self there. Examples of being thrown in a
pit: affairs that put the whole family in a pit, laid off, drug problem cause
we were prescribed pills and now we are addicted, sexual abuse. And if we get thrown in a pit young enough we
can honestly think that we are “home” we may not even be aware that we are in a
pit. If you have been thrown in a pit, make sure you are working on forgiving
the person that threw you in that pit.
B.
We can SLIP into a pit. Un-expected, ultimately it
is our doing that we end up in this pit but it was NOT what we meant to happen
or expected to happen. Nobody plans to be an alcoholic, nobody said I want to
be a drug addict. No one said I want to be obsessed with Sex and look at porn.
This is “Slipping” into a pit. This is where it is so vital to be walking in
the spirit. To be guarding all areas in our lives, not just the ones we think
we are going to get hit with. The devil doesn’t hit us straight on. Its seduction
it’s a curve ball that is NOT expected. Heed the warning signs. Walk in the
spirit, because there is a pit you can slip in. Listen for the beeper that goes
off when we are walking in the spirit even when we don’t know why the beeper is
going off.
C.
We can “JUMP” in a pit. This is when we plan our
sin. Willful sin is premeditated, pro-active sin.
We cannot get ourselves out of a pit, there are only 2 ways
and only one will work otherwise you will end up right back in the pit you came
out of. A person can pull us out of a pit and that person will sell us to
slavery and bondage.
If we have been in habitual sin, to get out of these pits we
first must just take those baby steps , because we ought to. They may NOT be
our desires but we know better therefore we do those baby steps , as we start
walking in the spirit those baby steps aren’t because we ought to, they are now
the desires of our hearts…therefore lifting us out of these pits that we find
ourselves in.
